Glass Artist Elisa Minasian
My love for art goes as far back as I can remember. My father, being an
architect, has always encouraged my siblings and I to express ourselves
artistically. Nature, music, and art have played a large part of who I am
today.
While in high school, my studies always consisted of anything that had to
do with creating. From mechanical drawing, graphic arts, photography,
wood and metal shop, power mechanics, and of course, art classes.
After high school I continued with my art studies at the Worcester Art
Museum full time while working nights at a large printing firm. After
the art museum, I continued working at the printing firm, where I worked
my way up from press operator to running the paste-up and layout
department. Upon request, I moved to Colorado Springs, where I worked
for the second largest newspaper in the city as a layout artist.
I returned to New England and worked with a large commercial painting crew. For several years I traveled all over New England painting large commercial buildings, churches, schools and residential homes. My artistic expertise was put to good use, focusing on the fine finish detail work on these buildings, both inside and out.
During these years, my parents owned and operated a bead store. Glass beads
and marbles have always held a fascination for me. In 2001, I discovered the
art of lampworking, the art of melting rods of glass over a small torch and
creating beads, goblets and sculptural pieces. I enrolled in classes for
lampworking, and in 2004, I began teaching for the Worcester Craft Center.
I have studied under, and assisted, many renowned glass artists during the
years since this time.
In January 2009, the Worcester Craft Center closed their doors, which gave
me the opportunity to begin work on creating my own teaching and working
glass studio. I am presently owner and operator of Something Phishy Glass
Studio, located at the Sprinkler Factory Studios in Worcester, MA, for those
who have the same passion for glass, or would like to learn how, will have
a place to come, learn, and create beautiful glass art.
I want to thank both of my parents for all of their love and support, past,
present, and future.
